My husband never supported my re-election to the National assembly - Remi Tinubu

The Lawmaker representing Lagos Central Senatorial District, Senator Oluremi Tinubu has revealed that her re-election into the Senate did not get the backing of her husband, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. She made this revelation on Tuesday September 29th during the "Women in Government’ conference organised by the South-West Region of the Department For International Development, DFID in collaboration with the Office of the Deputy Governor of Lagos State.
"Tinubu likes his wife to be at home and what is more confusing to me is that most Muslim men do not want their wives to work, but I am a hard worker.
The former Lagos State First Lady noted that it was her district leaders who got the form for her and talked her husband into allowing her to run for the position.
“People have been saying that I got to this position because I am Asiwaju’s wife. What they did not realise is that in the past election, my husband asked me not to go for a second term. It was the leaders in my district that got me the form and talked to him that they wanted me to go back. You can go to my district, the elites might not know me but the grassroots are the ones supporting and voting massively for me. I think that is enough for me and that is how you can get elected, you have to really identify with your people; if really know your people, they will stand up for you,’’ she stated.
Tinubu noted that she worked hard in order to win the support of her constituency.
"When I got the bill to run for primaries, I told my husband that I needed money and he said no money. I fought with the people in my constituency because they said I have to give them more money and I said no, what about the ones I have been giving to you before? If you are not going to vote, so be it. They said that they were just voting for me because of Asiwaju and I responded that Asiwaju is not even supporting me, then, you can go and vote for him." She is however appreciative of their massive support.

"But I’m grateful they voted for me. I have realised that when you are elected, you have to go back and work with your constituency because that is where your support and vote rests,’’ she stated

US Soldier discharged for beating alleged child rapist in Afghanistan

Sergeant 1st Class Charles Martland, the Green Beret being separated involuntarily from the U.S. Army for kicking and body slamming an Afghan police commander he describes as a "brutal child rapist," told his side of the story on Monday.

Martland is under an order imposed by the Pentagon not to say anything about what is currently going on with his situation, but at the request of Rep. Duncan Hunter, R-Calif, he wrote a statement detailing his actions on Sept. 6, 2011, which was obtained by CNN.

"Kicking me out of the army is morally wrong and the entire country knows it," Martland writes. Last week the Army rejected his appeal.
Martland and former Captain Daniel Quinn were disciplined by the Army after they beat a powerful local police official who they concluded had been raping a small boy. They say they had been encouraged by higher-ups that there was nothing to do about such horrific acts, that these were Afghan problems for the Afghan authorities to work out.
But the Afghan authorities wouldn't do anything about it, the two soldiers say.
"Our ALP (Afghan Local Police) were committing atrocities and we were quickly losing the support of the local populace," Martland writes in his statement.
"The severity of the rapes and the lack of action by the Afghan Government caused many of the locals to view our ALP as worse than the Taliban."
Quinn and Martland were told by a young Afghan boy and his mother, through an Afghan interpreter, that the boy had been tied to a post at the home of Afghan Local Police commander Abdul Rahman and raped repeatedly for up to two weeks. When his mother tried to stop the attacks, they told the soldiers, Rahman's brother beat her. Quinn says he verified the story with other ALP commanders from neighboring villages. Then they invited Rahman to the camp.
"After the child rapist laughed it off and referenced that it was only a boy, Captain Quinn picked him up and threw him," Martland writes. Martland then proceeded to "body slam him multiple times," kick him in the rib cage, and put his foot on his neck. "I continued to body slam him and throw him for fifty meters until he was outside the camp," Martland writes. "He was never knocked out, and he ran away from our camp." The incident lasted no more than five minutes, he says.
Quinn told CNN's "The Lead" last week "We basically had to make sure that he fully understood that if he ever went near that boy or his mother again, there was going to be hell to pay."
"While I understand that a military lawyer can say that I was legally wrong, we felt a moral obligation to act," Martland writes.
Quinn told CNN that they took the action they took because otherwise nothing would be done by the Army or local authorities.
"The reason we weren't able to step in with these local rape cases was we didn't want to undermine the authority of the local government," he said. "We were trying to build up the local government. Us acting after the local government fails to can certainly undermine their credibility."
The Pentagon denies that telling soldiers to look the other way is official practice.
"We have never had a policy in place that directs any military member, or any government personnel overseas to ignore human rights abuses," Defense spokesman Capt. Jeff Davis said. "Any sexual abuse, no matter who the alleged perpetrator and no matter who the victim, is completely unacceptable and reprehensible."

Man narrates how he & other passengers were made to sit on a plane for 3 hours while a 'special task force' searched all item in the cargo

The passenger Chiekezi Dozie wrote on Facebook:
Everyday I keep being reminded of the "Tao of Anyhowness" written by Victor. I have just been sitting on a plane for 3 hours whilst a "special task force" from the presidency has been searching every single item in the cargo hold individually. This was done without a care for people's time, sensitivities or even their luggage.
Hiding behind the mask of the presidency is not what we are looking for and neither is it the change we sought, it's just more of the same. All I can wish for these so called officials who didn't even have the decency, courtesy or home training to apologize is an infestation of locusts, lice and maggots in their nether region!!

Court hearing begins in the case of a 15-year-old Nigerian boy Joey Adesina who was stabbed to death in London

On December 5, 2014, Joey Adesina was tracked, chased, cornered in a dead-end street in Padbury Court, off Bethnal Green road and stabbed to death by two men, Lincoln Olaribigbe, 23, and Georgie Philips, 20, according to prosecutors in court yesterday Tuesday, September 29.

The 15-year-old had been with a group of friends in Hoxton when he was chased by men from a blue Mercedes, the jury was told. He hid with a friend behind a parked car in the dead-end street but was spotted, pinned against a fence, then dragged away and knifed.

Adesina from Dagenham staggered to a local convenience store where he collapsed and died. George Phillips and Lincoln Olaribigbe deny murdering the boy. Anthony Orchard QC, prosecuting, said it was not known who had actually committed the stabbing and the motivation "may never be completely clear". But everyone in the Mercedes had been part of a joint plan to attack whoever they could catch in Joel’s group, so they were "in it together".

Mr Orchard told the jury that earlier in the evening a silver Astra, linked to Olaribigbe, had driven repeatedly at Joel’s group outside a pub. CCTV catches them jump out of the way and Joel throws a rock at the car. Some of the group, including Joel, had knives themselves, the court heard. As the group headed off, Olaribigbe transferred to the Mercedes, linked to Phillips, to search for them.

"Joel and his group of friends had been tracked and chased by two cars at different times in the hours and minutes leading up to the stabbing," said Mr Orchard.

Near the Bethnal Green Road the car screeched onto the pavement by them and they ran in different directions. Joel and his friend "ran into an apparent dead end road and hid behind a parked silver car," said Mr Orchard. "Two men were standing by the Mercedes which had its headlights pointing down the dead end. The two men were saying: ‘Where did they go? (Joel’s friend) asked him if the men had gone. Unfortunately Joel poked his head over the top of the silver car to look and one of the men said words to the effect of ‘that’s one of them.’"

The following day the blue Mercedes was found burned out in an Islington car park. The case continues.
